The Health Dialectic (Author Interview)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09JJ973Z1/The Health Dialectic looks like a great guide. Can you tell us a little about it?The Health Dialectic is my attempt to deal with a problem. The things most of us have today – smart phones, computers, cars but most importantly chocolate bars and a refrigerator full of food – are not things that our ancestors would have had access to. Yet our our brain, our pleasure centers and so on, those are ancient. They probably haven’t changed significantly in at least 200,000 years. When you spend a lot of time thinking about early human evolution, you begin to understand that our hard wiring makes us more able to manipulated. In evolutionary terms, independent reasoning is something that might be valued, but group think is far more valuable. The person who wasn’t listening to the elders and doing their share of work was going to get kicked out of the community and most probably die.Early human communities relied on everyone doing their fair share of productive and reproductive work and had strong social structures – often rooted in religion, we think – to ensure that people did as they were told. So we’re hard wired to listen to other humans. That makes us extremely susceptible to advertising. Companies in the modern context are designed to maximize profit and market share. Those companies would be negligent if they weren’t using the human brain and human pleasure centers to more effectively sell their product. So we see the creation of these food labs where they test new chemicals to see if they can create the most appealing flavor of potato chip, for example. The result is that when chip companies are saying “bet you can’t eat just one” sometimes that is literally true. They’ve hacked into our brains so effectively that once we’re exposed to certain tastes we are compelled to seek out more. And this has been a driving factor in the epidemic of chronic disease we see today – diabetes, heart disease, cancer and so on. I’m not saying these things wouldn’t exist without modern food environments, but they would be much less common. Any plans to turn it into a series? This was really meant to be a short handbook. I am writing another book, which is much longer and connected with my PhD thesis which is really all about how the colonialism of the past 500 years has created a world out of balance on many levels. How long did it take you to write The Health Dialectic?Like I say, this was a short book, designed to be of maximal utility to the reader with minimal effort in terms of actual reading time. I think the actual writing time may have been three months. From the moment it was envisioned to publication was about six months. What inspired the idea for your book?It really was a person journey for me. I’ve always been somewhat interested in health and nutrition. As a young adult this led to me going completely vegan, but I had a lot of problems with my health during that time. Nothing too... Readmore
Oh! So Curious About Tattoos (Author Interview)
https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/oh-so-curious-about-tattoos-victor-ledesma/1142007767?ean=9798823108867Oh! So Curious About Tattoos looks like an exciting kids’ story. Can you tell us a little about it?The book is about my daughter’s curiosity towards my tattoos. We really did have a discussion about my tattoos, different types of tattoos, and how she can get a tattoo once she is the right age. Any plans to turn it into a series? We do plan to turn this into a series. Our next book is going to be called Oh! So Curious About My Aunt. I have an older sister with profound cognitive disabilities. My children do ask questions about my sister. The objective of that book is to bring awareness that people with cognitive disabilities can still teach. My sister taught me how to love unconditionally, show empathy and sympathy, how to be devoted, and how important family is within our lives. How were the illustrations done in Oh! So Curious About Tattoos?I had reached out to Corey Miller, star from the hit reality show LA Ink. He is my tattoo artist. I reached out to him with my idea. I already had my manuscript completed when I approached him with my idea. He agreed to illustrate each page and the title once we reviewed the logistics behind the book. Corey is and will forever be a close friend to mine, and I consider him family. That’s an amazing cover. Can you tell us a little about it?Corey came up with the idea of the cover. He thought it would be a good idea to put a me getting tattooed by him. Once he put the drawing on paper, I fell in love with it. The colors were hard to figure out with the cover page, because we didn’t want colors that were too neutral, but we also didn’t want colors that would stand out too much. What inspired the idea for your book?I’m a school psychologist, and I thought that bringing awareness to the world about tattoos needs to be a regular discussion with adults and children. I believe the negative stigma that certain people have of those who are tattooed needs to be an obsolete theory. Not all people who have tattoos are bad. Just like not all people who don’t have tattoos are good. One can be educated and still appreciate the art, beauty, and intricacies behind tattooing. I want the world to know that you can have multiple tattoos and still hold yourself to high standards. How did you come up with the title to your book? When my daughter continued to ask me multiple questions about my tattoos, I would say to myself, “Amelia, you’re oh so curious about everything.” The words, “oh so curious” just seemed to fit perfectly with the title of the book, just as the fit perfectly with my daughter’s personality. What part of the book was the most fun to write?I love writing about how tattoos should be meaningful, and we should only be getting tattoos that are meaningful to us. All of my tattoos have meaning, which is what makes them special to me. There’s a perso... Readmore

Seed of Fury (Author Interview)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094QSD62Q/Seed of Fury looks like an exciting story. Can you tell us a little about it?Within a span of three millieunm, this is the first fiction novel about the founding of the Roman Empire by the twin brothers, Romulus and Remus. It's all based on "The Rape of Sabine Women." Gods vs Pagans! How long did it take you to write Seed of Fury?Three months and took me a year to edit it. What inspired you when writing Seed of Fury?As a writer, I know we can change minds through our stories. I was determined to stop abuse and rape through a story. I decided to create a friend, someone the reader would grow with and love. In this way, we make abuse immediate. We make it something that must be stopped whether it happens to woman or man, young or old. How did you come up with the title to your book?Children who are born from abuse and rape are called Seed of Fury. How did you come up with the story and ideas in Seed of Fury?God forfeits His decision by allowing rape in the first place. It is a mother’s choice. It is her body that was so cruelly abused; she should have full say over how she recovers. No other soul in the universe has any authority over the abused woman and the child she carries. There must be rules and consistency, even for God. How can we stop abuse in the first place, for all genders and regardless of age? Historical true events will be the best place to start. Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing Seed of Fury? The rape scenes and Sabine history were erased by the Romans after 500 years, and the Sabines eventually integrated with the Romans. So I need a time capsule to learn from the past. What do you like to do when not writing?By profession, Mr. Antony is a Cyber Security and Threat intelligence architect, so don’t even think about messing with me, I will empty your pockets, accounts and vault 😊 Where can readers find out more about your work? Please find the book at jasebastin.com. We've got wonderful trailers for you to get a glimpse of the novel. There are sample pages, purchase links, and other books available. Readmore
