Khadijah is a fourteen-year-old girl who had just ran away from her culturally strict parents in the village to join her childhood friend, Delisah Dean, in the city. Delisah is from the same village as Khadijah. Most importantly, in the four years since she ran away from the village and arrived in the city, Delisah has made a good living for herself: possessing her own apartment, a caretaker and the latest fashion trending clothes and cosmetic lines. Upon arriving in the city and lodging with Delisah, Khadijah gets a taste of the good life and realizes the possibility to achieving all of one’s dreams here on this Earth, and not in Heaven as her deeply religious father would like her to believe. Being that she desires to be an independent and successful woman, Khadijah asks Delisah about how she herself can earn money to obtain the good life without becoming a financial burden. However, it this ask that exposes Khadijah to the secret of how her childhood friend actually obtains and maintains the good life in the city. A secret that confronts Khadijah head-on and forces her to make her first major decision in the adult world.
