Abandoned at birth, DL has tried to cut himself off from his past as much as possible, lying if necessary to conceal what little he knows about himself. Then he starts to have strange, unsettling dreams of goals he must reach before shadowy enemies can stop him. When these dreams begin to intrude into his waking life, and he starts to develop unusual abilities, he realizes that he may be more than human. Unfortunately, others realize the truth about DL, and they want his blood--literally!
About me
As far back as he can remember, Bill Hiatt had a love for reading so intense that he eventually ended up owning over eight thousand books--not counting ebooks! He has also loved to write for almost that long. As an English teacher, he had little time to write, though he always felt there were stories within him that longed to get out. Now that he is retired from teaching, the stories are even more anxious to get out into the world, and they will not be denied!
Q. What is the inspiration for the story?
A.
I've always loved mythology, and I like experimenting with unusual blends, in this case Korean, Arthurian, and Slavic. What would happen if someone who didn't know he was a dragon started dating someone without knowing she was a vampire, and both of them needed rescuing by the spirit of Merlin?
Q. Is there a message in your book that you want readers to grasp?
A.
There are at least a couple. This is partly a story about embracing who you are. It's also a story about realizing that a life of total independence may be a life without love and friendship; sometimes being "tied down" is the only way to be truly happy.
Q. What draws you to this genre?
A.
Fantasy is my favorite genre, and I strive to write the kind of books I love to read. Though I like all subgenres, I find the ones with a contemporary setting, or at least those with some contemporary characters, to be the most relatable.
