I started writing it 10 years ago and I know it is a long time to complete a novel. The original manuscript was divided into a trilogy. So, yes, there are two more books to follow.
What do you think makes a good story?
Character development. I find the best stories are when the characters hijack the story. The journey is amazing!
Which writers/books inspired you when writing Aholibamah: In the Beginning?
Anne Rice, Louis Cooper, Bram Stoker, Lord Byron
What are your ambitions for your writing career? Full time? Part time?
It would be a dream to be a full-time author. It would mean my readers love my characters as much as I do.
When did you decide to become a writer?
It has been on my wish list since I was a teenager. However, my daughter and her fascination with sparkly vampires pushed me to write about Aholi. Romantic but deadly. It was also during a time when I was recovering from a car accident the affected my vestibular. A fancy way of saying I had to relearn how to walk, read, etc. Aholi gave me hope for the future. Research for Aholibamah: In the Beginning helped with my rehabilitation.
When writing Aholibamah: In the Beginning did anything stand out as particularly challenging?
Two things.
- Vlad hijacked a portion of chapter 2. It is a scene I have tried to remove a dozen times with no success. He is what he is.
- However, editing is probably the most challenging. It feels good though when it is done, all polished and pretty.
How did you come up with the story of Aholibamah: In the Beginning?
In my early 20s, I was part of a vampire live action role play called the Camarilla. For those that are familiar, it was back when it was owned by White Wolf. Aholi was the character I created. In some ways, she became a part of me. Aholibamah is stubborn, independent, defiant and has a love of mischief.
What do you like to do when not writing?
I enjoy hiking, watching a great movie, and most importantly spending time with my girls and my husband, Robert.
