The Dark Oracle is your first published book. Do you plan for any follow ups or additional books?
The Dark Oracle is the first book in the series I have planned. My vision is that the story will take place over the course of five books, with the main narrative being shifted between the protagonists.

What do you think makes a great story?
I believe that the characters are what makes a great story. When I read a book, the characters’ motivations and personalities are what keep me invested in the story. When done right, the failures and successes of a character can inspire real failures and successes of a character can inspire real emotion in the reader.

What inspired you when writing The Dark Oracle?
Anything and everything fantasy-related inspired me when writing my book. When I was young, my friends and I would go outside with little baseball bats and swing at the air and shout the names of spells. Every day was a different adventure. Each time, I always thought about how great it would be to turn our adventures into a story.

What are your ambitions for your writing career? Full time? Part time?
My ambitions for my writing career are dependent on how The Dark Oracle is received. My goal is to publish one entry in the series at least every two to three years. I have no thoughts about starting another series right now as I want to focus all of my attention on structuring and expanding upon the world The Dark Oracle created.

When did you decide to become a writer?
I decided to become a writer when I was only seven years old. My elementary school had a program for young writers where we could write a little story and the school would laminate it for us. I thought that was the coolest thing, because I had a “book” with my name on it. The program became more elaborate the older we got, and by the time I was eleven the school was putting it in a fancy binding.
When writing The Dark Oracle did anything stand out as particularly challenging?
I wanted The Dark Oracle to stand out by developing a large cast of characters. The hardest part of writing it was cohesively narrating the thoughts and interactions of a large group of characters at once. To do this, I wrote down all of the characteristics and relationships of each character, that way if I ever wanted reassurance on how a character would react, I could consult my handbook quickly without disrupting the flow of my writing.
How did you come up with the story of The Dark Oracle?
The original story of The Dark Oracle was written when I was eight years old, and was heavily influenced by Lord of the Rings. As I got older, I kept writing and writing new versions of the story, by adding characters and vastly changing the scope of the story.
What do you like to do when not writing?
I like to spend time with my girlfriend, who was a large inspiration in me finally publishing The Dark Oracle. I also like to play video games, and that is typically what I am doing when I am not working.

How can readers discover more about you and your work?

Readers can purchase The Dark Oracle on amazon.com as an eBook right now, and I am currently working on getting it published as a paperback. I don’t have any websites set up for readers to contact me, but I can be reached at damenhelsing@gmail.com
