Is
Red Noon at Helltowne
a standalone book or will there be follow ups? It’s
the first book in a new trilogy, though it has two prequels in the
Night Skies Over Valhallow series. Book #2 in the new trilogy,
Campaign
Blackbeard,
should be available this spring.
What
do you think makes a great story? An
exciting plot, a captivating setting, interesting characters, and the
courage to write about pressing issues that others won’t.
What
inspired you when writing Red
Noon at Helltowne?
The
recent election, crazy protests, and events in Europe, both today and
in the past. Living in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and years of
roleplaying games certainly helped too.
What
are your ambitions for your writing career? Full time? Part time? I
am a full time writer.
When
did you decide to become a writer? Last
year. I’ve always had an interest in fantasy and philosophy and
decided it was finally time to give in and completely embrace it.
When
writing Red
Noon at Helltowne
did anything stand out as particularly challenging? Editing
and re-editing: I always strive for the perfect book.
How
did you come up with the story of Red
Noon at Helltowne?
Over
the last decade and a half, I’ve come to imagine the Shenandoah
Valley and larger world in a fantasy context. I wanted to bring that
vision to life in my novels. The political allegory aspect has also
been a lot of fun to incorporate.
What
do you like to do when not writing? Spending
time with my kids, enjoying the outdoors, and meditating.
How
can readers discover more about you and your work? My
blog http://valhallow.blogspot.com/.
It has links to my books, plus thoughts on how the political allegory
of the Night Skies series relates to our world today.
