Ultimate Horrotica (Author Interview)
www.amazon.com/dp/B082ZPB7BN/ Ultimate Horrotica looks like a scary erotica collection. Can you tell us a little about Ultimate Horrotica? People often assume that erotic means sexual, and although it does on some level it equally refers to the life instinct and the cusp of excitement. My writing does contain high levels of erotica. However, erotica actually comes from the word ‘eros’ or life force and that is in opposition to ‘thanatos’ an innate fascination with death, so there are different perspectives of the nature of erotica. The titillation found in horror comes from the head on collision of eros and Thanatos, that is the erotica. The vampire, for example, offers eternal life through a seductive death. That is very erotic. Sanguine Fervor portrays the victims struggle as she tries to rationalise her sexual attraction towards the vampire that offers death. She tries to escape and fails. She surrenders in a highly erotic sequence and then realises that she is doomed to live as a monster in the absence of the sun. Erotica does not necessarily imply sexual acts, although there are some very sexual descriptions in some of the stories. Any plans to turn it into a series? I am in the process of writing a trilogy. Ad Sex Speculum is the first of the trilogy and takes the traditional horror creatures and identifies them as Immortalis, a form of demon. The premise is heavily based on supernatural folklore and the occult but offers an alternative outcome. The notion of human sacrifice is not new, and it appears in many historical cultures. However, in Ad Sex Speculum the sacrifices choose their fate. They are driven by the deadly sins and basic need, but ultimately, they choose. There are seven different strands that slowly come together. It is an epic horror and it is overtly graphic in terms of both horror and erotica. What will readers get out of your book? Ultimate Horrotica is a huge book, over 550 pages of short stories and it covers most of the horror genre. Ultimate Horrotica is both an ode to traditional horror and a comment on human horror. It contains multiple short stories and includes traditional tales such as those depicting zombies, vampires, ghosts, werewolves, slashers and other mythical creatures. In parts their origins and lore are offered homage and the tales are true to their origins. In other parts I have taken an idea and altered it, for example I have rewritten Poe’s The Raven as a short and amusing tale about crows. The history of Lilith, a character omitted from The Bible is depicted in both Vrykolakos and Lilith. Tallboy derived from the name Larry Talbot recreates the werewolf legend. I also examine modern human horrors on a personal and social level. The Cyber Bully is constructed entirely from text talk and shows the rapid progression and destruction caused by o... Readmore
The Radical Declaration (Author Interview)
www.amazon.com/dp/B089M6P3CG/ The Radical Declaration looks like an insightful book. What can you tell us about it? The Radical Declaration uses the Declaration of Independence through the landscape of American history to say that in addition to the country’s stated goals of liberty and equality, there has been the unstated third party, paradox. Paradox instigates the tension between the ideals of liberty and equality. Never named, but imbued in the Declaration, paradox represents the distance between the perfection of the idea of pursuing liberty and equality as stated values and the imperfection associated with its execution. Moreover, paradox began when the Founders deleted any commentary about the slave trade from the original draft of the Declaration, helping to create a scenario by committing to liberty and equality on paper, but subjective liberty and inequality in practice. Did you write the book for a specific political side? Not at all, America is pregnant with high and low moments with varying political parties serving as protagonist and malefactor. It shows the influence of paradox has had on the American narrative. What inspired you when writing The Radical Declaration? That’s a great question! I was most inspired by those who would not accept what may have been the Founders intent, in order to move the nation closer to its stated goals. The unofficial intent of America’s founding was white male landowners. When you think about it, not only did that disenfranchise women and people of color, but also a large portion of white males. Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing The Radical Declaration? The most pressing challenge was keeping my personal feelings at a minimum. History is not how I might see it through my “enlightened 21st century lens, but staying in the moment. The reader won’t benefit from the text if I’m attempting to opine on the efficacy of human bondage in the 19th century or the systematic denial of women voting. My goal was to show how we got to the present moment. You have an interesting background. Can you tell us a little about yourself? In addition to being an author (The Radical Declaration is my fourth book) for 20 years I’ve written a political that places an emphasis on what I define is our “public morality.” Public Morality, as I define it, is based on the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and the Emancipation Proclamation. I host an NPR-affiliated broadcast also called the Public Morality. It is a weekly conversation with leading thinkers to talk about the complexity of a given issue beyond what one might hear on cable television. And I serve as an adjunct professor at Wake Forest University teaching interdisciplinary courses ranging from divinity... Readmore
Ensueno (Author Interview)
www.amazon.com/dp/B08929ZD86/ Ensueno looks like an exciting story. What can you tell us about it? It’s erotica written just for women. It’s more than the usual romance story you find ordinarily in female literature. It’s a lot more racy and erotic, written in a manner that women like. But there is romance too! The story Ensueno is based on an upscale Women’s resort in Mexico for highly affluent women. In this resort, they get anything and everything they desire. That includes the décor in the room, to the food they eat to the men they devour. They can act out anything they dream of in a safe, secure and private, and privileged environment. What kind of woman is Vanessa? Vanessa is a brilliant businesswoman who wants more from life. She is approaching 50, very rich, owns a large legal firm, created Ensueno from the ground up and is accustomed to getting her way. She can have anything in the world that she desires however, it seems love has escaped her in this lifetime…until Frank comes along. Any plans to turn the book into a series? Yes, Vanessa’s life is an adventure, and my readers get to go along with her and live out their fantasies! They are already asking for the second novel. Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing Ensueno? It was finding the time. I was trying to fit it in between other projects which is why it took eight years to write. Once I sat down to write though, it just flowed out of me. What do you like to do when not writing? Buying, selling, flipping, fixing up, and talking about Real Estate. Mexico, travel, beach life and my dogs are all loves of my life. Where can readers find out more about your work? www.queeniesbooks.com will have all of my novels and bio. Readmore
Realm Wars (Author Interview)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0858J51N1 Realm Wars looks like an exciting story. What can you tell us about Drake? - From the very beginning of the book, Drake gets metaphorically thrown into the deep end. He wakes up in an unknown place with no recollection of who he is or where he’s from. He’s also not given very much time to adapt and assess things before he gets tossed into other problematic situations throughout the story. Drake’s character is about trying to find the best way to move forward with the hand that gets dealt to him, even if at times it seems like there’s no good decisions available. That’s an amazing cover. Can you tell us a little about it? - I’m not an overly artistic person myself, but my girlfriend is passionate about that kind of stuff and was willing to put up with my craziness and help me design it. I wanted something simple, but eye-catching. I also wanted something that could be used for the entire series without a crazy amount of modification. She came up with this design and suggested that each volume have a different background color to differentiate them. I knew I liked it and got positive feedback from some close friends that was positive, so we decided to go forward with it. How did you come up with the story in Realm Wars? - I liked writing both fantasy and science fiction books growing up. At one point around fifteen or sixteen, I thought it’d be cool to put the two together in a world where they’re at war against each other. From there, I came up with the idea that the magic within the fantasy portion of the world would be unique to each character, which is where the idea for Gifts came from. Since then, it’s just been about writing and re-writing the actual story itself and figuring out a plot that I felt confident about. How many books do you have planned for the series? - I just released Volume 2 this week, and I have ideas stretching out to Volume 6 or 7. I have an ending in mind, but there’s a lot of ideas within this world that I think would be fun to explore. Part of the reasons the books are relatively short is because it allows me to progress the story forward a small amount; see what people liked and didn’t like; and then take that knowledge forward in future volumes. Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing Realm Wars? - Getting out of my own way was tough. My standards for myself are pretty high; so I’ve written and scrapped at least ten different versions of the story before arriving here. I would write a full story, set it down for a few ... Readmore
