Nursing looks like a great book on what it takes to be a nurse. Who is your target market for this book?
I wrote the book with one thing in mind – I wanted to share my understanding and perspective on the intricacies of being a nurse, so, Whether you’re giving serious thought to changing careers, or you’re just curious about what being a nurse is really like, there’s nothing like immersing yourself in their world.
The nursing world is an entirely different world on its own, you are not expected to think, react, or behave like everyone else, you are always required to be that Nurse that the world needs. So my book speaks to anyone interested in learning about the nursing profession, anyone who wants to spend a few hours in the shoes of a Nurse.
Can you tell us a little bit about your experiences?
I have always wanted to be a nurse, the profession has always been a source of fascination even right from when I was a child. When I started nursing school, I had a rude awakening. It wasn’t as glamours as I thought, a lot of things changed, and so did I, when I finally became a nurse people were just downright rude and mean, everybody seemed to want what they wanted without giving a nickel about you or your feelings, of course, all these things came with the profession, but nobody had really prepared me for what was to come. I felt a little shell shocked, and it took me a moment to adjust and push past it.
I moved up in the ranks, and now as a Nurse Manager, I often see so many new graduates with the same dear in headlight look I used to have; nobody prepared them for this. Of course, I made it, and so can they, but not everyone can efficiently manage mental and emotional stress, some people might break down along the line. The goal of this book is to provide an eyeopening experience to help students navigate these rough waters, a kind of way to prepare new nursing students of what the books will never teach you.
What will readers get out of your book?
The readers will practically get an all-expense-paid tour into what Nursing entails; they will have access to what requirements (emotional, mental, and intellectual) need to be met as a nurse, they will know what to expect. The book provides valuable information that has, over the years have proven to be a vital aspect of success in the Nursing profession.
As a reader you will be educated and well informed of the dos and don ts, you might be a new student, or you might be contemplating on changing your career, this book will give you a second opinion, The expectations are high, and it requires more than just focus to succeed in this profession.
What inspired you when writing Nursing?
As a Nurse Manager, I see a lot of new nurses who get inducted into the nursing professions, they always appear to be unprepared and shocked at what the real nursing world is, most of them sometimes breakdown into tears, some just drop out, and others just become cold and devastated. I am honestly affected by this repetitive occurrence, and therefore I decided to help prepare the future nurses for what is to come by writing this book; they deserve to know what they are up against. I want to paint an accurate picture of the Nursing world while also encouraging and providing moral support for the new nurses who find their way into the profession.
It is truly a new Journey, one that they might need a manual for.
When did you decide to become a writer?
I decided to become a writer because writing is one of the most effective ways of actively communicating one's experiences, ideas, thoughts, and perspectives to a broader audience. I have a story to tell, I have a message to pass, so I pick up my pen and write. I enjoy reading, sometimes I wish that I was exposed to more resources, tutoring, and lessons as a student… So I thought that I would become a resource for other people now that I have experience.
When writing, Nursing did anything stand out as particularly challenging?
So, it was hard for me to find that balance, but thankfully I created an honest and truthful masterpiece about the nursing profession. I love my profession, but the book is just an honest expression of what the nursing profession truly is.
What do you like to do when not writing?
When I am not writing, I enjoy reading books, binging out on movies, and roller skating. I am always looking for a way to connect with people.
