When Wellness Runs Dry Your Return to Self-Care Begins Here (Author Interview)

Tell your readers a little about yourself, where you grew up, where you live now, where you went to school etc. Let them get to know the personal you.

I am from the Land of Lincoln also known as Springfield, Illinois. Throughout my childhood, there was not a day that went without Abraham Lincoln being a part of my life in some way. After high school, I attended college and received a dual Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Sociology with a Criminal Justice emphasis and a Master of Arts in Psychology. Currently, I am pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in International Psychology with a Trauma Services Concentration. I now live in Colorado Springs, Colorado where I serve as the Managing Member/CEO of Koalatative Guided Solutions, LLC. What an adjustment it has been for my skin! I have spent more money on lotions, oils, and water to hydrate and moisturize than anything else within my budget - besides rent.

When Wellness Runs Dry looks like a great motivational and take-charge kind of book.  What type of readers did you write the book for?

This book is for the adult reader that has been searching for a way to begin or restart their self-wellness routine. You are correct. This book has been written in a motivational tone that encourages the reader to develop their own definition of self-wellness and create their own unique self-wellness routine.

How long did it take you to write When Wellness Runs Dry?

It took me four months. It is a short read.

What inspired you when writing When Wellness Runs Dry?

Honestly, I have personal experience with restarting my self-wellness routine numerous times and failing miserably. I realized that I had become overwhelmed and burnout from trying seemingly everything on the market. I could not believe I had become stressed out while "doing" self-care. It was then that I had an "ah-ha" moment. I had hit what I call - The Self-Care Burnout. The rest is history.

Why did you decide to become a writer?

Well… Becoming a writer was an evolutionary process. When I was a child, I was encouraged to write by my mother and grandmother. My mother had written a couple of songs and always had a pen to loan me when I needed it. She would read some of my journal writings and offer feedback. As I had gotten older, research papers took over my life and became my source of literary work for a while. Throughout all of this, I had been asked to write a book. I turned it down too many times, but this time the feeling overwhelmed me, and the subject matter was so intense in my life that I could not escape the calling.

How did you come up with the ideas in When Wellness Runs Dry?

Trial, error, and personal experience. Many of the ideas in this book were those that I wish I had as I kept restarting my self-wellness routine. These were the things I have learned and researched along the way that would have saved me a lot of frustration. Some were also from my professional experience working with people who were looking to become well.

Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing When Wellness Runs Dry?

One of the most challenging things about writing this book was dealing with significant self-reflection. I had a difficult time with processing the idea of experiencing so many defeats with self-wellness… I cried a few times…

What do you like to do when not writing?

When I am not writing, I like to read, spend time with family and friends, and sit on my little patio with music playing with a cup of coffee in my hand. I also like to pretend I know how to do yoga and take a drive to view the wonders of nature.
