Shattered Bones (Author Interview)

Shattered Bones looks like an exciting story.  Can you tell us a little about Dennis?

Dennis is a well mannered man that has great morals and values but, where he is perceived to be excelling in life, is where he also has a weak foundation. His life structure is based on God first,  then his marriage,  and finally his family (which seem to make him a great candidate if he were a bachelor) but, throughout the book he is faced with challenges that question everything he stands for.  The true questions are, will he let his past haunt him? Will he sacrifice his belief system for the present? And will both questions deny him the future he always dreamt of while and destroying all that he has built?

Any plans to turn it into a series?

Great question.  As a matter of fact,  it is in the making.  The book is a two part book as of now. The book is considered a short read to most but, it’s as they say,  “escalates rather quickly” with all of the characters and situations.

How did you come up with the title to your book?

I came up with Shattered Bones because I wanted to create a title that correlates the idea that life and the body work functionally the same.  If you shatter or break one bone, no matter how small it is,  it will affect the rest of your body.  The same thing can be said about life.  One reward or mistake can cause a ripple effect in your life.  That ripple can forever change your lifes trajectory if you allow it too by not healing from it.

What motivated you to become a writer?

I have always loved to write and have a vivid imagination. When I was singing R&B professionally, I wrote my own lyrics. After the songs were recorded,  I immediately began thinking of music video ideas. I like bringing stories to life, especially stories that people can relate to or fantasize about. This book was originally thought to be used as a screen play but,  I decided to take it on a different path. A journey that led it to the destination it's currently at today. I hope that at least one person likes it enough to make the book come to visual reality on screen.

What part of the book did you have the hardest time writing?

At first,  it was creating the scene itself and visualizing what I wanted the reader to see in my head in terms of location. After that,  it was the complexity of each character. I placed parts of me in each one but also had to put other individually specific characteristics in each one to make them unique and yet one in the same. I had to even ask people how they would feel in certain situations and portray that in my writings. It took a long time but, was well worth it.

What do you like to do when not writing?

When I'm not writing,  I love to sing,  travel with my family,  and submerge myself in nature. I love the outdoors. I love going to quiet places and listening to God’s creations. It's calming and reminds me of how thankful I am to be able to live this long run enjoy all that is around me.
