• The Awakening (Author Interview)

www.amazon.com/dp/1951630963/ Q. The Awakening looks like a great self-journey.  What can you tell us about it?         The Awakening follows the harrowing story of my life as a “Colored” born in South Africa, who has lived a life that few would envy but many will see themselves in. Born “Cape Colored”, as they say in South Africa, I am of mixed race, which made me a target of much ire or ill-will home and abroad as an Immigrant. My struggles go beyond my race. Born to a man who lived much of his life in the closet, my familiarity with secrets and shame became all too apparent as my life progressed. From sexual abuse to homelessness; to a move to the United States, and then bad marriage; my life has been paved by traumas and struggles. This poignant memoir not only details my struggles but also aims to inspire others. Although my own story is riddled with unspeakable pain, it also offers insights into how I rose above the trauma and heartache and found a path forward—one that lends itself to help other trauma victims and advocate  for their needs and well-being. After becoming a Domestic worker, I experienced a modern form of abuse. The abuse continued with a trade. This continuous abuse opened an opportunity for me to have two bills written and passed, making it law. I started my company “My Character References LLC” after losing my place on referral sites following some negative reviews that did not accurately represent me as a professional worker. I came to America as an immigrant, and following my divorce had to take work as a domestic worker. I joined online sites that utilized a referral basis, and when I received these negative comments, my positive reviews were hidden or even deleted, and I had no recourse. I decided to use my personal experiences to assist others in similar situations. I realize that many people in this industry were minorities, people of color and immigrants. My Character References is a website that maintains employee histories for domestic workers, home health aides, and anyone working in the personal care industries, more specifically immigrants who might not be able to get due process. My goal is for all workers to have a place where they can feel safe and can keep their reviews, both good and bad, alive without fear of their profiles being deleted altogether. Not only did I make a difference for immigrants and essential workers with ways to protect them, I also wrote a book called “The Awakening” where I share my story to help others in similar situations. Q. That is an amazing cover.  Can you tell us a little about it? The cover represents two particularly important flags. They have a different meaning for me. The South African flag, the green, blue, white, yellow and black; my dad was a closet bisexual man until his passing in 2005. South African is also known as the ‘Rainbow Nation’ The Rainbow Na... • #IMUST (Author Interview)

www.amazon.com/dp/1735056103/    #IMUST looks like an immensely helpful book.  Can you tell us a little about it? #IMUST is a book about how to get through grief or loss. The reason why I made it 40 days is because 40 is a number correlated with a wilderness experience. I feel that getting through the pain of grief, is very similar to going through a “wilderness experience” or a period that is not clear in our lives that is associated with great struggle.  People tend to only associate loss to a death of a loved one, but I would like to define loss as the death of an expectation. Loss is when you expect something to happen, and that expectation dies. Grief is a side-effect of a loss. I think many do not think their losses are valid because it might not be a death. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a loss could be a loss of freedom, celebration (graduations, weddings), or the loss of a job. All of these can cause grief. One thing I’ve always had pause with is how little we talk about dealing and managing grief in Christian forums. The goal of this book, is to help people get through the different stages of grief and loss through using the Word of God. How long did it take you to write #IMUST? I started to write this book in January 28th, 2020. The reason why that date is important is I had a deep personal loss on that day of my own. I also went through another loss very soon after that. When dealing with my own broken-ness, I had to find a way to manage. This book is literally the ways in which I encouraged myself through my own loss. I wanted to be able to share those words with others. I took me about 2 months to get eventhing completed, and literally the day I finished writing was the day we were all locked into isolation for COVID-19. I didn’t write the book specifically for the pandemic, but I know with all that has happened in the world, it can help people who are going through things in the pandemic. What will readers get out of your book? Encouragement and understanding. I feel that there are places in the Bible that make our feelingS during times of grief very relatable. It’s encouraging to know that when we are going through these things, God does understand what we are going through. Also, to have the understanding through God’s word of how to manage it is important as well. Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing #IMUST? There were so many moving pieces and with everything being closed, it was difficult to just get all the moving pieces together! Not only this, but being in isolation is very difficult and mentally draining. It can be easy to just want to sleep all day instead of realLy working on pumping a book out. It’s really challenging to keep yourself motivate when you are by yourself. If anything I’ve learned the power of self-motivation and just sticking to a goal no matter what. What do you like to do when not writing? I actual... Readmore

  • A Woman Does It Better (Author Interview)

www.amazon.com/dp/0578617943/ A Woman Does It Better looks like a great book.  Any plans to turn it into a series? There’s a rumour that the Youngest Vice President might publish his side of the story - he’s  techie.  And there is The First Man - who has taken a lot as the husband. And others with something to say, so we’ll see.             How long did it take you to write A Woman Does It Better? It started as an all-nighter inspired story while I was traveling and jet-lagged in Riga, Latvia. (Yes, really!) The editing, revising, changing, taking out, putting in, was done over many, many months.   But determination to get it published occurred in the fall/winter of 2019/2020 when, once again, it became obvious that two old white guys would be competing for the highest office in the land.  How could this really be happening? What inspired you when writing A Woman Does It Better?    Few people know of the history of women running for President, stretching back to the 1800’s, most of them have been strong reformers.  As stated in the book, after Hilary Clinton, a Washington insider disconnected to the public pulse and consumed with personal hubris, I wanted a woman who was much more in touch with modernity to tackle the job in a very different way with a real view to changing the world.  Mark Twain’s writing on politicians, again written so long ago, but applicable today, also helped. Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing A Woman Does It Better? Yes, to keep it POSSIBLE.  Really, making is so that everything in this book could actually happen.  Also, I wanted her to be really smart - but not a smart aleck, so some of the writing had to be changed since it is her speaking throughout.  She has to be someone you would like to have dinner with! What do you like to do when not writing? Wish I were writing! Actually, I’m an educator.  I’ve taught English as a Second Language in five countries, from Haiti to Thailand.  I’ve become a fan of traveling too, but mostly to see natural beauty.  (Once you’ve been up the Eiffel Tower and the Burj Khalifa as well as inside the Louvre and the Metropolitan Museum you get more impressed with waterfalls and mountains - as least I have become so!) Where can readers find out more about your work? At the website is www.awomandoesitbetter.us - I’ll be blogging, putting up short stories and hopefully announcing the next book to come.  Mostly I’d appreciate ANYONE who reads “A Woman Does It Better” to write a review - it will only help make whatever I write next more interesting. • How to Cope: Parenting a Child with Special Needs (Author Interview)

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=how+to+cope+parenting+a+child+with+special+needs+by+Christine+Staple+Ebanks&ref=nb_sb_noss How to Cope looks like a great book.  What can you tell us about it? How to Cope: Parenting a Child with Special Needs is written for the parents, caregivers and family who have just received a diagnosis or who are learning to live with a diagnosis of a disability for their child.  While the speaks to disabilities and how these affect children’s development and learning, it is more focused on the parent. The book’s foreword is written by renowned child and adolescent psychiatrist   Dr. Ganesh Shetty. Dr Shetty states that “How to Cope: Parenting a Child with Special Needs is a rich cache of inspiration, encouragement, and information to equip every parent of a child with special needs with the right attitude, perspective , and knowledge required to accept, embrace, and cope.” How long did it take you to write How to Cope? Writing How to Cope: Parenting a Child with Special Needs was written over an 8-year period. I started the book back in 2012, but at the time, I was still in the throes of dealing with my son’s diagnosis. So I wrote the book in bits and pieces and actually went on to write and publish two other books. My first book - Raising Nathan: Every life Has a Story (2015) captures my story. It gave voice to my and my family’s struggles off coming to terms with the diagnosis of cerebral palsy, which is a major life-altering disability. It captures my process in moving past the myriad of emotions to acceptance of my son and his special needs. My 2nd book – A parent’s guide to surviving the Homework years supported my journey as not a parent of children with and without disabilities, who had to learn how to manage those very challenging years. I finally went back to the manuscript for How to Cope: Parenting a Child with Special Needs in late  2018 and finally published in May 2020. What motivated you to write How to Cope? My son’s diagnosis launched me into disability advocacy for not only my child, but for children with disabilities in my country. Over the last decade, I have observed that the biggest challenge for parents was the need for support. They needed someone who has been where they are and who could provide guidance and support… a “journey companion of sorts”. I am no longer in the place of feeling lost and lonely as I was at the start of my journey but am now in a place of empowerment. I am surrounded by a strong international network of supporters who are fellow journey companions and I have learned and put into practice that it does take a village to raise a child… especially if the child has special needs. So I was motivated to put out this book, to help others along their journey and to “pay if forward.” I was able to move through to where I am today because of the help of others. I wanted to use my experiences to ... Readmore
