'Horror Law 101' is your first published book. Do you plan for any follow ups or additional books?
I've
done bits of editing here and there, but this is my first book to
completely edit. As far as a follow-up, umm...I feel readers will
enjoy the book as-is. The only other parts of the story (that I know
about, anyway) are the parts that involve me--and no one wants to
read about me.
What
do you think makes a great story?
Gosh.
A great story is something that has layers. I love books where you
pick up on things in subsequent readings that you missed the first
time.
What
inspired you when writing 'Horror
Law 101'?
There
was a box of papers and stuff passed around the editing firm for a
while--long enough that no one remembered how it got there--and it
had become a running thing to see if someone would ever take the time
to see if something could be made of it. So I did what I could to
piece it all together--inspired by the fact that I love a challenge.
And this is the end result: "Horror Law 101." (I did come
up with the book title though.)
What
are your ambitions for your writing career? Full time? Part time?
At
this point, it doesn't matter much to me if I have a career in the
literary world or not. I'd be happy if a few people took a chance on
this book, read it, and enjoyed it--and possibly told a friend or
two.
When
writing 'Horror
Law 101' did
anything stand out as particularly challenging?
The
whole thing was challenging. Imagine dumping a big box of pages and
cassettes and stuff on your living room floor and then trying to make
sense of it all. It was a long process. Lots of long nights.
How
did you come up with the story of 'Horror
Law 101'?
he
only thing I came up with were the chapters titles and the name of
the book. But if anyone out there feels they can shed some light on
the story, please let me know.
What
do you like to do when not writing?
Coffee,
TV and getting dragged away from both by friends periodically.
How
can readers discover more about you and your work?
There's
not much more to discover. I have a Twitter account, but I don't use
it as much as I should. If anyone needs to get a hold of me, they can
tweet @MsLoriMatthews . I will try to be more active on it (or at
least replace the egg).
