THE
INCA CAT SERIES BY R.F. KRISTI (www.incabookseries.com)
Inca
Book Series
is a two-part series. Do you plan for any follow ups or additional
books?
I
am planning 6 books to be associated with the escapades of Inca the
Siberian kitty. The third in this series, ‘Cats in Provence’ is
due to be launched sometime in February 2017. Inca & Company, the
detective agency headed by the adventure loving Inca will hunt an art
thief in Provence and Paris, France. The forth will probably be
centered in London, but thoughts for the fifth book, to be based in
Asia, is germinating.
What
do you think makes a great children's story?
A
story for children, in my opinion, should be multifaceted: A fun
read but also a learning tool to introduce vocabulary development,
exposure to different cultures and varied subjects; and above all
foster the love of animals.
What
inspired you when writing the
Inca Book Series?
The
intelligence and allure of cats has always enchanted me. The idea for
the Inca Cat Series came to me, rather from living and observation-
and the details in a strange way, from reading. I don't think we
choose our genre, I think that a genre chooses us or should I say,
Inca and Cara my own cats made the choice inevitable.
What
are your ambitions for your writing career? Full time? Part time?
I
am currently a full-time writer. I am hoping that this series will
gradually gain a wider audience and allow me to contribute proceeds
of book sales to animal rescue efforts globally, particularly in
developing countries.
When
did you decide to become a writer?
Writing
the Inca Cat Series arose out of the blue. I had never dreamed of
writing stories for children. I am rather nostalgic and like a more
ordered world. From watching and interacting with both my cats, Inca
and Cara, the Inca Cat Series was born. Loving a good mystery, when
I started writing about the cat adventures, the ideas started
flowing.
When
writing the Inca
Book Series
did anything stand out as particularly challenging?
My
specialty, due to my work with the United Nations concentrated on
writing reports of a technical nature. A world much removed from the
milieu of children’s books. I struggled at the beginning to
simplify vocabulary and to make the sentence structure readable by a
younger audience.
How
did you come up with each story?
The
details of the first story evolved for my love of my own cats Inca
and Cara, for which I based two principal characters in the Inca Cat
Series. I never read romantic novels, science fiction nor fantasy
stories. Detective stories on the other hand have me hooked. Hence,
naturally without too much thought, I seem to turn to mystery plots
for coming up with each story.
What
do you like to do when not writing and creating these books?
I
am an avid reader and a yoga addict. I also like to devote time to
helping animal rescue efforts.
Yes, I have a site at
