Whinny of the Wild Horses AUTHOR INTERVIEW

What inspired you when writing Whinny of the Wild Horses?
I was enjoying riding lessons and wanted a horse of my own. I heard that it was possible to adopt a wild horse at a Bureau of Land Management auction for only $125. I began researching wild horses. I soon realized that I didn’t have the skills necessary to train a wild horse (the domesticated horse I eventually got turned out to be wild enough for me) but all the research led to the book.

What are your ambitions for your writing career?
I’m a full time writer with seven children’s books so far. Besides Whinny of the Wild Horses, I’m the author of Noah's Ark Pet Care Club and the Kayla Montgomery mystery series which includes Eye of Truth, Thirty Pieces of Silver, Deliver Us From Evil, Lead Us Not Into Temptation, and Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing.

When did you decide to become a writer?
I began writing after my last child was born. Ironically, it takes me about nine months to write a story.

How did you come up with the story behind Whinny of the Wild Horses?
My novels reflect my love of nature and animals, especially horses. I was a fourth grade teacher for many years and could draw from experiences at school for my characters. A trip out west to view wild horses helped me with setting and an action-packed plot.

What do you like to do when not writing and creating these books?
I love to hike with my dog, bike, cross-county ski, play tennis, and horseback ride.
