The Purpose Of Life: To Love And To Create: The Meaning Of Life Is Found By Expressing Love Through Creativity (Author Interview)

Can you tell us a little about The Purpose Of Life?

It is an exploration to discover what the purpose and meaning of life are.   In this journey, I include many quotes from religious leaders, physicists, astronomers, philosophers, artists and everyday people that opened my eyes to possibilities and answers.

This book is an attempt to connect the dots on many of the big questions of life itself with insights from great thinkers.

Everyone will acknowledge that love and creativity are important, but I think we just skim the surface of their power and potentialities.

In this book, I challenge everyone to really explore love and creativity and I think if you do you will be surprised and enriched by what you discover.

What motivated you to write the book?

I wanted answers to the big questions.  Why are we here?  What are we supposed to do here?   How do we make life more meaningful?  I had searched for most of my life and did not find answers that were remotely satisfying.  Indeed, the statements that life was ‘absurd’ or ‘meaningless’, I did not accept.

I set out to get answers.  Like many of us, I have woken up in the middle of the night and these questions weighed on me and made me restless.   I lost sleep.  I was frustrated and scared as death comes closer every day.

What type of reader did you write the book for?

People like me that are looking for answers to the big questions of life.

How long did it take you to write The Purpose Of Life?

A year of writing and a lifetime of thinking about it.

How did you come up with the title for the book?

It was what I discovered and believe to be true.   I also thought if someone did not read the book and just saw the title it might make them think about the purpose of life and their own life.

Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing The Purpose Of Life?

Why is there tragedy, especially, gut-wrenching tragedy that involves terrible things happening to little children?   How is there a positive purpose to life when such awful things happen regularly to innocent people?

To me, this has what has confounded anyone trying to answer the big questions and why they just give up and say life is ‘meaningless’ and ‘absurd’.

I devote a chapter to tragedy in my book.  For me, that chapter provides me hope that tragedy and life are not meaningless and that life is not just suffering, but instead wonderous and purposeful.

What do you like to do when not writing?

I consult on Search Engine Optimization, play and watch sports, exercise and try and be as healthy as I can be.

Highly recommended!

I am grateful for this review.  It is always nice to hear kind words about your book but also to see that the messages of the book resonated.

This book was a major undertaking for me and it was audacious to take on such a lofty topic in my first attempt at writing a book.

It was not my intention to make this my first book, but synchronicity took over.

My humble goal was to get some answers for myself on what the purpose and meaning of life were:  What I found on my exploration and journey exceeded all of my wildest hopes and expectations.    The beauty of the Universe is staggering and each of our roles in it can be very important.

Every time I got stuck on an issue when I was writing the book I would stumble upon a quote, a YouTube video, a book, or a lecture that would unlock it for me.

For example, I knew I had to confront tragedy and loss.  I knew that would be a stern challenge and could render everything else I wrote moot if did not look at tragedy without wincing.

I am so glad I did.

This book is the chronicle of what I found.

There are nuances and intricacies about life, love and creativity that we all need to explore.  And I believe if you have the courage to do so you will be rewarded handsomely.

This review provides a good overview of my book: The Purpose of Life: To Love and To Create.

Eye-Opener!

I am very grateful for this review for the kind words but also because it is an objective excellent summary of what my goal was with this book.

In many ways it is simple and even a little cliché to say life is about love.   But even though most of us say I love you to people in our life daily,  I don’t think we fully appreciate its magnificence, its subtleties, its nuances or really how powerful it is.

One of the chapters of the book is titled, ‘Love Is Not An Emotion’.   I explore and explain why defining love as an emotion is wrong and minimizes love.   It is really so much more.  Looking at love in new ways is the cornerstone of the book and if you are open to looking at love in new ways doing so will have a profound impact on your life.

Love is and can be so much more than how we think about it traditionally and usually.

This book is an exploration of the two most important activities we can undertake with our lives: Love and Creativity.

What the world needs to solve its problems is what we need to give meaning to our lives: Love and Creativity.
