Is Manifesto for Love your first published book? How long did it take you to write it and do you plan any follow ups to it?

Manifesto for Love is my 2nd book. My first book was titled To Dream Again: The Continuing Challenge of Martin Luther King, Jr. Atlhough Manifesto for Love is a short book, it took me about a month to write it. If the inspiration hits me, I’d love to write additional books in the future.

What do you think makes a great self-help book?

A great self-help book is both inspiring and action-oriented, and easily accessible to the reader.

Which writers/books inspired you when writing Manifesto for Love?

A wide range of people and writers inspired me when I was writing the book – people like Dr. King, Nelson Mandela, Tony Robbins, Stephen Covey, Oprah Winfrey.

What are your ambitions for your writing career? Full time? Part time?

Someday, perhaps my writing can be a full-time endeavor for me. But for now, it is part-time.

When did you decide to become a writer?

In 2003, while listening to some speeches by Dr. King, I wondered what he might say if he were alive today. That inspired me to write my first book, To Dream Again.

When writing Manifesto for Love did anything stand out as particularly challenging?

I knew the book would be short, and I was trying to find the right balance between the use of hopefully inspiring, poetic language with engaging action-oriented exercises and activities that the reader might find useful.

How did you come up with the concepts and ideas found in Manifesto for Love?

I was on an airplane flight and, for some reason, started thinking about some of the difficult issues facing the world, and I somehow settled on the idea that at the root of many of those difficult issues was the absence of love. And I wondered what might be done about that. And so, strangely at 30,000 feet on an airplane ride, ideas starting popping into my head, and I wrote them down non-stop for about 2 hours. Those ideas became the framework for Manifesto for Love.

What do you like to do when not writing?

I read a lot – newspapers online, and books. I also listen to a lot of audiobooks. I also love a good meal. And I love watching Netflix with my wife.
